The Monmouth County Park System will hold the 7 Prez SK8 Jam from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 21 at the newly renovated Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park Skateplex, Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. Enjoy amateur competitions, music, and a pro skater demonstration. Competitors will have the chance to compete against other skaters on the street course for awards in different age categories. There will also be a Bowl Contest for skaters looking to show off their skills.
Awards will be given to the top three skaters in each category. The competition schedule is as follows:
Beginners from 9-10 a.m. Categories are: Age 12 and under and age 13-16.
Intermediate from 10-11 a.m. Categories are: Ages 12 and under, ages 13-16 and ages 17 and up.
Advanced from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Categories are: Ages 12 and under, ages 13-16 and ages 17 and up.
Bowl Contest from 1-2 p.m. Categories are: ages 16 and under and ages 17 and up.
The cost to enter the competition is $15 per person. Online registration is available at www.monmouthcountyparks.com. Cash or check only for event day registration. All competitors must wear helmets.
Highlights of the event include a demonstration from the Lockdown Skateboard Team around 12 p.m. and a performance by The Pure Thirteen at 1 p.m. Be sure to check out local skateboard and food vendors. Adding to the festival atmosphere is music provided by DJ Foggy Notion. Event admission and parking are free.
