Summer institute open to local high school students

South Brunswick High School (SBHS) students can enroll for the 2016 Summer Institute, which offers a set of courses that enable a student to advance a course level in a given sequence of courses, begin post-secondary study in an interest area, take a course of studies not currently offered during the school year at SBHS, complete more advanced or intense study in a given area of interest, or respond to a scheduling conflict which precludes the student taking a course critical to his/her educational plan.

The Summer Institute will run from June 24 to Aug 5. This year, 18 courses will be offered, including some courses for rising ninth graders, as well as one for rising eighth graders. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Biology, Advanced Geometry, Personal Financial Management, Robotics or the new College Academy for 12th graders who want an early start to the college application process. A complete list of all courses offered is available on the SBHS website.

SBHS Summer Institute Courses for Advancement are available for credit. Students will automatically receive Option II credit on their transcripts that will count toward graduation credit, if students fulfill all course requirements.

Thomas Decker, K-12 supervisor of World Language and ELL will serve a head of program.

Applications and fees are due by May 15. The Institute is open to students both in and outside of South Brunswick School District. Enrollment is limited and courses will be filled on a “first come, first served” basis.

For more information, contact Decker at thomas.decker@sbschools.org or 732-329-4044, ext. 5201.
