Local students win history essay contest

The Shrewsbury Towne-Monmouth Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has announced the winners of the 2016 essay contest, “A Colonial Family’s Reaction to the Stamp Act.”

The Shrewsbury Towne-Monmouth Chapter held its award night on April 11 at the Shrewsbury Borough Hall. At the ceremony, each student who participated received a certificate of participation from the local chapter. Winners received certificates and monetary awards. This year, 14 schools participated, and there were 528 essay entries.

First-place winners include Josh Scheck (grade 5) of Wemrock Brook School in Manalapan and Andrew Scanlon (grade 6), Christopher Montefusco (grade 7) and Madeleine Hicks (grade 8), all of St. Leo the Great School in Lincroft.
