Senior Center members and graduate students volunteer for service project

LONG BRANCH — Long Branch Senior Center members and Monmouth University graduate social work students worked together to make care packages for sick children at local hospitals.

About 20 members from the Long Branch Senior Center volunteered for a service project along with an almost equal number of graduate students from Monmouth University’s School of Social Work. The goal of the project was to put together care packages for sick children at area hospitals including Monmouth Medical. The students were from the “Social Work Practice with the Aged” class taught by Dr. Christa Hogan.  The care packages included well-wishes from the seniors and students, along with handmade “Boo-Boo Bunnies,” no-sew blankets, and stuffed bears. By the end of the morning, the group had assembled approximately 70 packages. In the end, the project provided not only items to help sick children feel better, but it also presented an opportunity for members of different generations to work together.

The Long Branch Senior Center is open to Long Branch residents, age 60 and above.  For more information call 732-571-6542 or visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LongBranchSeniorCenter/
