The second annual Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools Reel Film Festival will take place May 5 and 6.

The work of 46 students in the digital film program will be featured. Included will be short films, videos, photographs and audio presentations. The two-hour program will begin at 6:30 p.m. each day in the auditorium on the East Brunswick Campus, 112 Rues Lane.

School of the Arts faculty members will judge the entries and awards will be presented on Friday. In addition, awards will be presented for the View-Master photography competition and the inaugural Filminute competition, featuring one-minute films, which were open to all School of the Arts students.

Louis Libitz, digital film instructor, said the View-Master competition has grown in its second year from 45 entries to more than 100.

Tickets for the festival will cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and MCVTS alumni.

Junior Rosalia Richter, a digital film student from East Brunswick, had her film titled “Jack” accepted for showing at the 10th annual Ocean County Library Student Film Festival, held during April in Toms River.

The East Brunswick Campus was a venue for the second year for the Black Maria Film and Video Festival, which tours nationally.

“We get to see what the professionals out there are doing,” Libitz said.

The MCVTS School of the Arts, on the East Brunswick Campus, offers career majors in theater, dance, digital filmmaking, graphic design/commercial art and illustration, and multimedia art and design.

The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District, the first full-time county vocational school district in the nation, has seven schools on five campuses, in East Brunswick, Edison, Piscataway, Perth Amboy and Woodbridge.
