East Brunswick Anti-Crime Unit completes narcotics investigations

EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Anti-Crime Unit officers, Detectives Dan Unkel and Alex Danese, have brought forth charges against several suspects accused of drug possession in the township.

On April 22, the detectives reportedly observed a narcotics transaction in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel on Route 18.

Matthew Baxter, 40, of New Brunswick, was allegedly involved in a narcotics transaction with Michael Wasserman, 36, of East Brunswick, according to a statement prepared by the East Brunswick Police Department.

Detectives reportedly seized four ounces of marijuana, oxycodone, other prescription pills and more than $2,500 in cash. Baxter’s vehicle was also seized.

Baxter was charged with distribution of marijuana, distribution in a school zone and possession of marijuana over 50 grams. Wasserman was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released on their own recognizance.

On April 6, the Anti-Crime Unit reportedly observed a suspicious vehicle parked and running at the Brunswick Square Mall on Route 18.  An investigation by the detectives allegedly resulted in the seizure of cocaine as well as numerous empty bags commonly used to package cocaine.  Marijuana was also located within the vehicle, according to police.

Mariam Mawajdeh, 20, of Elizabeth, and Muzzammil Bhuri, 20, of Princeton, were charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. They were both released on their own recognizance.
