Pirates and Cubs play to 14-14 tie
EWPAL’s Pirates, boys ages 5 to 8, played the Cubs in a marathon game that ended in a 14-14 tie.
The team, sponsored by CMB Karate, took an early lead with a hit parade, started by a hit to center by Quentin Solvibile, a shot up the middle by Richie Polgar, and additional singles by brothers Zach and William Pressler. The second inning continued with hits by Jake Reinstein, Nico Kenyon, Manny Gonzalez and a shot to center field by Alex Ferrara.
The cubs battled back in the bottom of the second inning. But the third inning proved no different in hits as another brother tandem, Christian and Nicholas Decker continued the onslaught with back to back hits, followed by Cash Colleton.
The fourth proved to be a key inning as the team batted around with multiple hits, including a second hit by Jake Reinstein with a wooden bat. The fifth continued the pressure by additional hits by Quentin, Richie, Alex, Manny, William and Nico.
Taking a lead into the bottom of the sixth, the Pirates took the field and ended the game with the bases loaded. Final score was 14-14, with pirates MVP of the game going to Jake Reinstein for two hits and solid defense behind the plate.
The team is managed by Rich Polgar and coached by Rick Pressler.
