Historical panel to host author talk on covered bridges

Eric Sucar
A group crosses a small makeshift bridge along the Charleston Springs trails on a sunny and warm day on April 24. The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, the oldest environmental group in New Jersey, is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The East Brunswick Historical Society will present Richard Garlipp, author of “New Jersey’s Covered Bridges,” from 2-4 p.m. May 15 at the Historical Society House, 78 Milltown Road, East Brunswick.

Garlipp will discuss covered bridges and show images of them. At one time, New Jersey had as many as 45 covered bridges. Today, only one survives — the Green Sergeant, built in 1872 over the Wickecheoke Creek in Hunterdon County. An exhibit of covered bridges will also be on display.

Copies of Garlipp’s book will be available. For more information, call 732-249-3522.
