JCC announces dinner program May 24

The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County and the Metuchen-Edison Gesher Hadassah announce an evening of music and fun will be held at 6:15 p.m. on May 24, featuring Lincoln Richman presenting “Rhythm and Jews: A History of Jews in Rock ‘n Roll”.

From Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, to Bob Dylan, Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Lesley Gore, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss, Joey Ramone and Tommy Ramone of the Ramones, all three Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond and Billy Joel, Jews have been at the forefront of American popular music for the past 60 years. Using video clips, sound recordings, lecture and Lincoln on guitar, the music history — and Jewish history – of these artists and more will be explored.

Lincoln Richman earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. A teacher and musician, Lincoln wrote the book, music and lyrics for “Step Two” an original rock musical play selected as a winner in the Festival of New Plays at the Jewish Ensemble Theater in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

The cost is $18 per person if paid before May 17; $21 if paid between May 18 and May 22 and includes a cold buffet dinner from The Orchid in Metuchen and program. No reservations after May 22. No walk-ins. For questions, call Diane Mael, director of Adult Services, at 732-494-3232, ext. 3614, or Aimee Braverman at 732-548-4086.
