HOLMDEL- A new monument to honor the American and South Vietnamese servicemen and women who fought alongside one another for freedom in the Vietnam War debuted at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial during an April 30 ceremony.
“The veterans of the Republic of South Vietnam not only fought for freedom, but lost many friends and loved ones in the war,” said Bill Linderman, executive director of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Foundation.
“They then had to escape from their enemies and bring their families to America. We’re proud of their achievements and the opportunity to pay tribute by dedicating this monument.”
The New Jersey Vietnamese-American Community Association (NJVACA), was established in 1997 and is dedicated to preserving the Vietnamese culture and to enhance the community’s quality of life. The association promotes cultural activities to sustain self-identity and enhance leadership among the younger Vietnamese generation by establishing mentor programs, creating a social space for the increasing number of Vietnamese-American senior citizens, and supporting other Vietnamese-American organizations in New Jersey.
