Rain dampened the track but not the spirits of walkers and runners of all shapes and speeds who logged laps on the Hillsborough High School track Sunday as a way to show support for people in the community facing a medical crisis.
The weather added a bit of flair — especially with gear to ward off the drops — to the “Walk on the Wild Side” event.
People showed up at the track between 7 a.m. and noon. By the end of the day, 251 runners logged 3,759 laps. The 939.75 miles triggered more than $7,000 in donations for the township-based Steps Together non-profit that helps families with ongoing stresses, primarily from medical problems.
Hillsborough postman Bill Mather led the way by run 100 “laps of healing. He completed 105 laps, the equivalent of a full marathon of 26.2 miles.
