North Brunswick to offer lifeguard training

North Brunswick Township will offer lifeguard training through the American Red Cross.

Course includes first aid, CPR, AED and bloodborne pathogens training. Manuals and training materials will be provided.

Participants must be at least 15 years old, be able to swim 300 yards using the front crawl and breaststroke, complete a timed surface drive to retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of at least 7 feet and a 20-yard swim while carrying it, and tread water without hands for two minutes. A 50 percent refund will be issued to anyone who fails the pretest.

Trainees are required to attend all dates and sessions and to makeup any classes as determined by the instructor. The course is set for 3-9 p.m. Saturdays, May 14-June 18 (no class on June 4). The pretest will be held 8:30-9:30 p.m. May 12. All sessions will be at the pool at North Brunswick Township High School, 98 Raider Road.

The cost is $260 for residents or $275 for non-residents.
