Twenty trees planted at school campus

RUMSON — The Rumson Borough Shade Tree Commission along with the Rumson School District administration, PTO and Student Government Association, recently sponsored the fundraiser, “Buck$ for Bark,” to purchase campus legacy trees for each grade in the K-8 school district.

A Rumson Arbor Day Ceremony was held April 29 to celebrate the planting of 20 trees on the Deane-Porter/Forrestdale school campus, which was made possible by the $6,200 raised by students.

The Arbor Day ceremony was led by Superintendent Dr. John Bormann and featured comments from Mayor John Ekdahl, Student Government Association President and eighth grader Peyton Ming and Shade Tree Chair Stephen Barrett.

“It was with great pride to see our school community come together under the ‘Buck$ for Bark’ initiative to plant trees on our school property. To many, Arbor Day is about the planting and growing of a tree — for the students of Rumson, it became about the planting of an idea and growing a sense of community,” said Bormann.

The school maintenance staff, Shade Tree Commission and Rumson Garden Club volunteers will work together to ensure the trees are watered throughout the spring and summer.
