The weather is beginning to heat up as are the tournaments in various sports this spring. Our local landscape is dotted with crucial games and events over the coming days that will decide championships.
Take a look below and pick out some sites where you can visit and enjoy some great matchups.
The Monmouth County Softball Tournament championship game is May 14 at Wall Township High School, where St. John Vianney will clash with Middletown North.
Top-seeded St. John Vianney advanced when it knocked out Howell in the semifinals, while second-seeded Middletown North eliminated Red Bank Catholic in the other semifinal.
The Greater Middlesex Conference Softball Tournament holds its first round on May 14 at the home of the higher seed. Monroe, J.P. Stevens, Bishop Ahr, East Brunswick, South Brunswick and Spotswood, the 2-7 seeds, will all play home games that day.
North Brunswick High School is the site for the Greater Middlesex Conference Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse finals on May 14.
There is a very good chance that undefeated North Brunswick girls will be there. The Raiders (16-0) are the No. 1 seed and neighbor South Brunswick is No. 2. The defending champion, Monroe, is the third seed.
The semifinals are May 12 on the home turf of the higher seed.
St. Joseph’s of Metuchen is the No. 1 seed in the boys’ tournament and the defending champion, Monroe, is No. 2.
The boy’s semis are also at the field of the higher seed.
In Shore Conference lacrosse, the question is: Can anyone dethrone Rumson-Fair Haven in the boys’ and girls’ tournaments? Both are the defending champions and the top seeds.
The boys are playing their championship game on May 16 at Long Branch High School while the girls travel to West Long Branch to play at Monmouth University the same night.
It’s a big week for track and field.
At the Carl Sandburg Middle School in Old Bridge Township, the Greater Middlesex Conference Championships are being held on May 13 and 14.
The two-day Monmouth County Championships conclude on May 13 at Bob Roggy Memorial Field at Holmdel High School.
The Shore Conference Boys Volleyball Tournament concludes on May 12 with the semifinals and final at Georgian Court University in Lakewood.
The defending champion, Christian Brothers Academy, is the No. 2 seed and undefeated Southern Regional is the top seed.
Tindall Park in Middletown is the site for the May 14 Monmouth County Boys’ Tennis Tournament.
For those who can’t get enough football, there will be a football game on May 14 at Count Basie Field in Red Bank. Alumni players from the Shore Conference’s oldest gridiron rivalry, Red Bank Regional-Long Branch, will suit up one more time for to play in this inaugural Alumni Game.
Cost is $10 and proceeds will benefit both the Red Bank and Long Branch football teams. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
