The East Brunswick Police Department is accepting applications for its 11th annual Youth Police Academy planned for 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 20-24 at Churchill Junior High School, 18 Norton Road. A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the day on June 24. The program, which is open to individuals ages 13-17 who reside or attend school in East Brunswick, can accommodate 30 cadets.

The academy is designed to provide an opportunity for young members of the community to get a better understanding of how the EBPD operates and how the police officers serve and protect the community. Each cadet will take part in team-building activities and learn about respect and tolerance. The program also includes a field trip to a local law-enforcement site such as the New Jersey State Police Museum or its equivalent.

Prospective cadets may obtain an application by logging on to www.ebpd.net or by visiting the EBPD Administrative Division in EBPD headquarters, Jean Walling Civic Center. Completed applications, accompanied by a $100 enrollment fee, must be submitted in person 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at the Administrative Division. Payment should be in cash, check or money order made payable to Township of East Brunswick. Deadline for submissions is May 27.

Due to the high number of anticipated applicants and the limited class size, cadets who are new to the program may be accepted over previous graduates.
