EAST BRUNSWICK – Three names have been added to the East Brunswick School District’s Wall of Honor, honoring retired teachers who have left their marks on the district.
“We are fortunate that every April we have had little difficulty finding individuals to add to our district’s honor roll. It is a demanding selection process, but it is one that brings to light those who have had the most positive impact on our district,” Board of Education President Todd Simmens said to a packed meeting room at the April 14 board of education meeting.
This year’s inductees are Ruth Davitt, a former teacher at Hammarskjold Middle School and former president of the East Brunswick Education Association (EBEA); Thomas Dziedziak, a former math teacher at Churchill Junior High School; and Joyce Lentz, a former Social Studies teacher at East Brunswick High School.
Wall of Honor inductees are chosen by the district’s Recognition Committee which is comprised of representatives from the East Brunswick Education Association (EBEA), the East Brunswick Principals and Supervisors Association, and the Board of Education. It is chaired by the director of Human Resources.
“It is bittersweet that we honor you three tonight because it means that you have retired. Each of you has left more than an impression on our district. You have each in your own way shaped who we are today, and we are able to maintain our programs because of the paths that each of you have forged and because of the incredible talent that each of you have represented,” said Simmens. “Please know that our community will be forever grateful to each of you.”
According to Dana Zimbicki, president of the EBEA, the trio have a combined total of 159 years of educational experience amongst them.
According to Superintendent of Schools Victor Valeski, eligibility for the Wall of Honor begins one-and-a-half years following June 30 of the retirement year, and ends three-and-a-half years later.
The Wall of Honor registrar, where the names are displayed, is located in the back of the Board of Education’s meeting room in the Jon R. Kopko Administration Building, located off of Route 18.
