Ground broken for Sportika sports facility

MANALAPAN – Work is underway at the site of a new sports facility in Manalapan. A groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled to have been held on May 21 at the future home of Sportika, 146 Woodward Road.

The completion of the sports center is scheduled for December, according to a press release.

Sportika will consist of more than 169,000 square feet of sports, entertainment and retail experiences. The facility will house a full-sided indoor soccer field with ample sideline room and 54.5-foot ceilings. Viewing areas will be provided for fans, according to the press release.

“The concept was conceived in March 2013 as a result of being very frustrated with sub-par sports facilities that did not cater to anyone but the respective athlete who was using the facility,” said David Hocheiser, an owner-investor.

“The dream, which is now reality, was for the player and family to encounter the ultimate sports experience. Our goal is that an elite player or a recreational hobbyist could enjoy the facility and not feel they are being placed in the wrong program,” Hocheiser said.

Sports included are soccer, baseball, softball, field hockey, basketball, lacrosse, dodgeball, Wiffle ball, Ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, flag football and pickleball. There will be an arcade and space for yoga classes, personal training, conventions and team building events. Bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, communions and more can be accommodated at Sportika, according to the press release.

Sportika will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit www.sportikasports.com
