‘The History of Spaniards in N.J.’ to be held June 12

Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre will present “The History of Spaniards in New Jersey” on June 12 from 1-3 p.m. It will be held at Rutgers University Voorhees Hall 105, adjacent to the Zimmerli Art Museum, 71 Hamilton St., New Brunswick. Admission is free.

Journey back in time with the people of Galicia, northern Spain, as they migrated to New Jersey since the mid-1800s with this unique lecture demonstration. Stories of Galician families, along with photos and excerpts of oral histories, will educate you about how and why these people came to New Jersey and how they have impacted their communities. How their cultural traditions are kept alive today in our state will be brought to life by accompanying demonstrations — traditional costumes modeled by Alborada dancers while they are demonstrating regional dance movements and musical instruments. After the presentation, light refreshments will be offered at a reception in the lobby of the Zimmerli Art Museum. To RSVP, call 732-598-3979 or email alboradadance@optonline.net.

Funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission, Middlesex County Board of Freeholders, through a grant provided by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
