Trenton – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure of the ramp from Route 440 to Pfeiffer Boulevard (Route 184) in Perth Amboy as replacement of the Route 440 over Route 35 bridge deck begins.
Beginning tonight at 11:30, NJDOT contractor, Berto Construction, will close the ramp from Route 440 to Pfeiffer Boulevard to permit replacement and reconstruction of the bridge deck. This project includes replacement of the concrete deck, bridge railings/parapets, and deck joints, as well as the construction of new concrete approach slabs. Substructure repairs and bridge safety deficiencies will also be addressed to meet current NJDOT standards.
The closure will last approximately 12 weeks and will necessitate two detours:
Detour 1 – Traffic heading to Route 440 Southbound from Lawrence Street and Amboy Avenue. Traffic will be directed to stay on Waltrous Avenue which crosses Amboy Avenue, then across Route 35 and back onto Pfeiffer Boulevard.
Detour 2 – Traffic coming from the Outer Bridge Crossing
Traffic coming from the Outer Bridge Crossing will continue on Route 440 southbound beyond the Pfeiffer Boulevard (Route 184)/Route 35 south exit ramp and take the New Brunswick Avenue/Woodbridge exit ramp.
