Sophomores Brandon Costa (left) and Victoria Cocchiara (right) watch fellow classmate Connor Reid (middle) try his hand at the brand new driving simulator introduced at Jackson Memorial High School on January 20. The simulator is to help students learn to drive and understand the impact of distracted driving. Students won the simulator through a video contest for SADD.

The Old Bridge Public Library, in conjunction with AARP, will present the AARP Smart Driver Course 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 7 and 8 at the library main branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

Topics will include the effects of medication on driving; how to reduce driver distractions; proper use of safety belts, air bags, anti-lock brakes and new-car technology; techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way and roundabouts; and how to adjust driving to compensate for age-related physical changes.

Participants, who must attend both sessions in order to successfully complete the course, may be eligible to reduce up to 2 points from their driving record and/or receive an auto-insurance premium reduction. The class is open to drivers of all ages.

Course fee, which will be collected at the door, is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Cash, or checks payable to AARP, will be accepted.

Registration is required by calling 732-721-5600, ext. 5033 or by logging on to www.oldbridgelibrary.org/events.
