Raccoon tests positive for rabies in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK – The Middlesex County Office of Health Services is reporting that a raccoon tested positive for rabies in East Brunswick in the vicinity of Cranbury Road and Kingswood Boulevard.

The animal control officer for East Brunswick responded to a call about a raccoon, which was lethargic and drooling saliva in the parking lot of a housing development on May 16, according to a statement prepared by Health Services.

The raccoon was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing, and it was reported on May 17, that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

There are no known human or animal exposures to the raccoon, according to the statement. Additionally, a Middlesex County Office of Health Services’ Registered Environmental Health Specialist will be distributing rabies fact sheets within the area.

This is the third rabid animal reported within Middlesex County for 2016 and the first rabid animal reported in East Brunswick.
