Mon., May 30 
A re-dedication of the Civil War Monument at the Brainerd Cemetery, 22 N. Main St., Cranbury will be held at 10:30 a.m. by the N.J. Civil War History Association, re-enacting as the 14th N.J. Volunteer Regiment, Company H. The re-dedication service will include the unveiling of a new smaller monument, adjacent to the original, with the names of the 70 soldiers that are listed on the 1866 Civil War Soldiers Monument.
The Annual Hightstown-East Windsor Memorial Day Parade will start on Stockton Street at 9 a.m. and will proceed through the center of town at approximately 9:30 a.m., finishing at the VFW on Dutch Neck Road. The grand marshals for this year’s parade will be Joel McKay of Hightstown and Alvin Miller of East Windsor. The event will honor the veterans with five wreaths placed throughout the parade route. Everyone is invited to attend and show support for all veterans.
The Hightstown Animal Welfare Committee is taking Paws Walk to a new level. This year, dogs will be walking in the Memorial Day Parade in Hightstown. Participants are asked to gather in the field at the VFW on Dutch Neck Road by 10 a.m. Red-white-blue decorated bones will be available on a first come basis while treats last. Dogs must be walked by an adult, and on a 6-foot leash. Water bowls are provided along the route. Themed dog kerchiefs are available for purchase at the Animal Welfare table on the VFW field. Dogs can also join the group during the parade along Stockton Street. To volunteer, email awc@hightstownawc.org. 

The Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor Werner Lecture Fund presents, “Glickman – One Voice Changed the Sports World Forever,” at 7 p.m. The legendary voice of the New York Knicks, Giants, and Jets writes of his years as a Syracuse football star and a track Olympian who was denied his chance to compete in the 1936 Olympics due to anti-Semitism in Berlin, where he was dropped from the 400 meter relay team. Cranbury Public Library, will present “Called to Duty,“ a documentary film about N.J. Civil War training camps, at 7 p.m. in the Library at 23 N. Main St.The Cranbury Historical & Preservation Society is co-sponsoring this program. The film was written and produced by Tom Burke of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association. 

The annual Strawberry Festival, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury Board of Deacons, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Strawberries, cake, ice cream, hamburgers, hot dogs, music, games, face painting, a clown and more will be available. The church is at 22 S. Main St., Cranbury. The event will be held rain or shine and benefits the Deacons benevolence fund. 

A new group called DeathCafe will meet at 6:30 p.m. the Perkins Restaurant at 50 Princeton Hightstown Road, East Windsor. The meeting offers an opportunity to gather in a safe, non-judgmental environment to discuss any aspect of death that may be of interest to you. This event will include team trivia questions about Downton Abbey and England, a silent auction of Downton Abbey memorabilia and other special items, door prizes, projected photos from the series, refreshments and a few surprises. Cranbury Museum, 4 Park Place East, 1-4 p.m., features the exhibit, “Merchants of Main Street: A Stroll Through Through the Shoppes of Cranbury’s Past,” which celebrates the creativity, hard work and entrepreneurial skills of the Main Street Merchants of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Come take a stroll down Main Street, visit our merchants and view their wares and services. This exhibit will be displayed through August, 2016. 

Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor Genealogy Club will present Art Finkle and a discussion on the Jewish Community that settled into the Trenton area at 7:30 p.m. Art is the chair of the Trenton Jewish Historical Society and will delve into the immigrant periods of a displaced people adapting to a completely new environment. He will highlight Trenton’s institutions, its work and its eventual economic success, and explore the second generation Russian community along with the older and smaller German Jewish community. Trenton is one of many small cities that served as havens for Jewish refugees who came to the land of opportunity to eventually achieve the American dream. Art also plans to highlight the history of Beth El Synagogue, whose congregation dates back to 1906. The Rotary Club of Robbinsville Hamilton will host “ROTARUN”, a 5K race and fundraiser to benefit veterans groups and local charities, in Veterans’ Park in Hamilton Township, N.J. Sign-in for runners will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 runners in several categories. There will also be a 1K fun walk.
