TRENTON – Lifelong Edison resident Robert Karabinchak received the oath of office to become the newest member of the New Jersey General Assembly.
Karabinchak will represent the 18th Legislative District – including the municipalities of East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Metuchen and South River – alongside Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex).
“I’m honored that I can serve the people of the 18th District as a member of the Assembly,” Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) said on May 26, according to a statement prepared by the New Jersey Assembly Democrats. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues on behalf of my constituents in the district and people all across New Jersey.”
Karabinchak was selected to fill the seat vacated by Senator Patrick Diegnan, who assumed that office after Peter Barnes III was named a superior court judge.
After eight years in various roles within local government – including seats on the Edison Board of Adjustment, the Edison Zoning Board, the Edison Fair Rental Housing Board and the Middlesex County Utilities Authority – Karabinchak was first appointed to the Edison Township Council in 2007, according to the statement. While on the council, where he remained until being selected to join the Assembly, he served multiple terms as council president and was a member of the body’s Finance Committee.
Karabinchak, who is married with three adult children, has also served the Edison community as a youth soccer and baseball coach. He is the president of Tri-Form Construction, a construction management firm he has owned for more than 30 years, according to the Assembly Democrats.
