14th Annual Middlesex County Prevention Education Summit coming June 15

The 14th Annual Middlesex County Prevention Education Summit will be held on June 15.

The 2016 event is titled “Pills to Heroin: It’s Happening to Good People.” It will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville.

The Summit will feature opening remarks by Andrew Carey, Middlesex County prosecutor. Four workshops have been scheduled including an overview of the heroin issue, presented by Douglas S. Collier of the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs. Dr. Samantha Berman of the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Emergency Medicine will provide a presentation on the Heroin and Prescription Drug problem from the perspective of physicians/prescribers. Luigi Brunetti of the Rutgers University School of Pharmacy will discuss the same issue from the perspective of pharmacists.

The final workshop will present individuals who have been affected by the current substance use epidemic, and the event will conclude with a presentation by a special guest speaker, Ray Lucas, former NFL player and Rutgers University alumnus.

Exhibitors will have tables set up to provide additional information and resources. Individuals interested in attending the event must register in advance. Online registration is available at www.wellspringprevention.org. There is a $10 fee to attend the conference.

The conference is sponsored by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the Middlesex County Municipal Alliance Program, and Wellspring Center for Prevention (formerly NCADD of Middlesex County).
