Raider Robotix concludes competition season with quarterfinal victory

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Raider Robotix Team 25 celebrated its 20th year of competition with an impressive victory at the world championships in Missouri.

The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) team from North Brunswick Township High School traveled to St. Louis April 27-30. More than 600 high school robotics teams from the United States, Canada and other countries participated in the competition in eight divisions.

After the qualification rounds, the team entered the quarterfinals as the No. 3 seeded team in the Curie Division with a record of eight victories and two losses. The Raiders formed an alliance with Teams 2848, The All Sparks, from Dallas; Team 4329, Lutheran Roboteers, from St. Charles, Missouri; and Team 1885, ILITE Robotics, from Haymarket, Virginia. The alliance successfully won one quarterfinal match before being eliminated in a tiebreaker third round, according to information provided by the team.

During the 2016 FIRST Robotics season, Raider Robotix finished as a finalist and No. 11 ranked team within the Mid-Atlantic Robotics (MAR) District Championships April 13–16, a finalist and No. 2 seeded team at the MAR district competition at Bridgewater-Raritan April 1–3, and the No. 1 seeded team at the MAR district competition at Hatboro-Horsham in Pennsylvania March 4–6.

Raider Robotix also won two Judges’ Awards during the season.

Their robot had the highest amount of points for climbing across all eight divisions at the FIRST World Championship. Due to the Raider Robotix climbing mechanism’s design, the robot’s custom drive train wheels and the ability to quickly score boulders in the low goal both in autonomous mode and under operator control, a panel of industry professional judges awarded Raider Robotix the General Motors-sponsored Industrial Design Award during the Bridgewater- Raritan MAR District Event. At the Hatboro-Horsham MAR District Event, Raider Robotix was awarded the Johnson & Johnson-sponsored Gracious Professional award,
