NORTH BRUNSWICK – Rotary Club members have been recognized for their efforts to beautify the Township of North Brunswick.
The Rutgers Rotoract Club and the New Brunswick Rotary Club have been cleaning up the two-mile area around Cozzens Lane off of Route 1 semiannually for the past three years. To show their appreciation, members of the Township Council presented the group with a proclamation during the May 2 council meeting.
“We just noticed about two weeks ago how beautiful Cozzens Lane looked. It was free of litter and debris and clean,” Councilwoman Cathy Nicola said.
Rotoract is open to 18- to 30-year-olds worldwide and is managed by Rotary Clubs. The local groups participate in a trash cleanup twice each year in support of North Brunswick’s litter program.
The Rotoract Club is also fundraising to build latrines for 14 families in Ecuador. They have also done volunteer work in Tanzania.
“I hope this is the beginning of a longterm commitment to the communities they reside in,” said Walter Deutsch, president of the Rotary Club of New Brunswick, who attended the meeting with Rotary members Steve and Roz Shaw of North Brunswick.
