On June 14, the East Brunswick Elks will celebrate 239 since the adoption of the American flag. The Flag Day Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge will be celebrated with the local Boy Scout troops.

All lodges are required by Grand Lodge mandate to hold a ceremony at their lodge to commemorate it.

Three-time World all-around champion Simone Biles, 2012 Olympic team and all-around champion Gabby Douglas, 2012 Olympic team and floor exercise champion Aly Raisman, 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin and 2012 Olympic team gold-medalist Jordyn Wieber headline the 2016 Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions cast set to tumble into Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia Nov. 4. The tour also includes members of the both 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Teams.

Middletown Elks will hold the annual youth activities Batter Up contests June 11. Registration will be at 8 a.m. Competition will take place at 9 a.m. at Gordon Court field off Main street Port Monmouth. The rain date is June 18. The batter up is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 15 for baseball and softball.

The New York Cosmos announced that the club is opening registration for young soccer players who want to try out for the club’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams.

Prospective players must register with details about their playing experience. The Cosmos will select players from the submitted applications to participate in an invite-only tryout, which will take place over June and July.

No exceptions or walk-up applications will be accepted. Soccer players born in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 can register for the chance to be invited to an Academy tryout.

Laura Calderone of Monmouth Junction was one of more than 200 Lebanon Valley College students who played a varsity sport during the 2016 spring season. Calderone, a graduate of South Brunswick High School, was a member of Lebanon Valley’s women’s track and field team. Calderone received a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education and special education.

MLS player RJ Allen will take part in the Hazlet Camp July 11-14. Age groups will be trained separately from age 8 to 13.

The Greater Middlesex Conference has honored the North Brunswick Township High School volleyball team. Four players — senior Shiv Rattan and juniors Ryan Jennings, Max Santana and Bryan Ezeonu — were named all White-Division.

Coach Jim Biolsi was honored as Coach of the Year for the White Division.

In addition, Ryan Jennings was named as an All-Conference player.

The team finished the year as the White Division champions with a 9-1 record and a 15-7 record overall.

The Edison Angels girls travel 10U softball team celebrated its first PONY tournament championship victory May 22. The team, consisting of 11 girls ages 9-11, were a perfect 6-0 on the weekend, giving up a remarkably low eight runs.

The tournament victory gives the team a berth at the PONY National Championships in July in Virginia, where it will face some of the top teams in the country.
