HOPEWELL: Lightning team strikes in holiday tournament

On May 28, the under-8 HVSA boys’ travel soccer team defeated the Elite Plainfield Strikers, 4-1, at the HVSA Memorial Weekend Tournament.
Goalies Kyle Yadamiec and Jeremy Siegelheim allowed only one second-half goal. Tyler Yadamiec, Dylan Napoleon and Milan Desai had distant kicks down the line to keep the ball in the team’s control. Jackson Sub worked fast and furious to earn the MVP for the team in the game.
The first goal of the day came on a kick by Michael Whitlock. The second and third goals came thanks to the speed and agility of Dylan Napoleon. Kyle Yadamiec secured a fourth goal on a penalty kick. Ethan Nau, Logan Gonsalves and Jai John worked a tough defense and offense, rotating throughout the game.
Ty Becker and Gavin McCafferty, with their sprints and tight footwork, dodged and weaved through the opponents. The boys worked hard through the 95-degree heat to capture their first win.
That afternoon, the Lightning’s second game in the tournament was just as fun competitive and successful, 6-4. Starting goalie was Ethan Nau who kept his sharp eye focused on the ball. Kyle Yadamiec came up next as goalie. His long punts and quick dives helped to stave off Perth Amboy. Kyle also scored a goal.
Dylan Napoleon, this game’s MVP, started the game with magic in his feet and scored three quick goals. Later, he scored the sixth goal off an assist by Jeremy Siegelheim.
The fourth goal came from the swift work of Michael Whitlock with an assist from Tyler Yadamiec. Players like Jeremy Siegelheim and Jai John blocked opponents and kept the ball away from Perth Amboy.
Coach Nau and Coach Whitlock were quick to switch up players to keep everyone hydrated and playing their best.
