Games That You Can’t Miss

The curtain closes on the 2016 spring scholastic season in New Jersey this weekend, when state championships take center stage.

For baseball fans, all (base) paths lead to Toms River on Saturday, June 11.

Three doubleheaders at the three Toms River high schools will determine this year’s NJSIAA group state champions. Games will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Toms River East, North and South high schools.

Kean University in Union is where the NJSIAA group softball championships are being held. Tripleheaders will be played over the two days. Games are  Friday, June 10, at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. and on the following  day, Saturday, June 11, the games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Middletown South and New Egypt will be among the teams playing for a state softball championship.

At 11 a.m. on June 11, Middletown South goes for a second straight Group III crown when the Eagles play Steinert. Next up at 1 p.m. is the New Egypt-Butler matchup for the Group I state championship.

The NJSIAA Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament of Champions finals are June 11 at Kean University. The girls are up first at 5 p.m. and the boys follow at 7.

South Brunswick High School is home to the NJSIAA Boys’ Volleyball Team Tournament final on June 9 at 5 p.m.

The best tennis player in New Jersey will be crowned on June 9 at Mercer County Park. The state individual and doubles tournament finals will begin at 12 p.m.

For those who can’t get enough track and field, there’s the 30th New Jersey Invitational Track and Field Meet at the Peddie School in Hightstown..With this being an Olympic year, some of the participants will be looking to turn in qualifying marks for the July Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
