PLUMSTED – Municipal officials have approved an emergency appropriation to fund a re-examination of the Plumsted Township master plan to ensure that existing documents reflect the municipality as it exists in 2016.
An ordinance authorizing a $10,000 emergency appropriation to hire professional consultants to prepare a master plan update was unanimously approved by the Township Committee on June 1.
A master plan is a series of documents that outlines the land use regulations that frame a community’s growth and development. A master plan review generally occurs every six to seven years.
Municipal officials indicated the master plan was last updated in 2006.
“This has to be done every so often and we are at the point where it has to be done,” Mayor Jack Trotta said.
According to the ordinance, the emergency appropriation will be financed in future budgets, with at least 20 percent of the cost to be included each year.
