For its third year in a row, the Class of 2016 Class Council of South Brunswick High School (SBHS) held its successful Krayons for Kids fundraiser, benefiting the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson.

This state-of-the-art facility serves children and their families every day, always striving to make a child’s hospitalization as positive as possible. In its efforts to do this, the hospital uses crayons and coloring books as a distraction and a fun activity for the children.

At SBHS and in the 2016 Class Council, we know the importance of creation and creativity as we use it every day to engage our classmates and turn out a wide variety of things from bulletin boards and posters to homecoming floats.

Therefore, we decided to hold this fundraiser again. During the month of April, the Class of 2016 Class Council of South Brunswick High School promoted and encouraged other members of the community to donate and support its Krayons for Kids fundraiser. The fundraiser ran in concurrence with the South Brunswick School District Art Show, so while the members of our community admired our students’ art they could also give back to other children who need art in their life.

While the mission of this fundraiser was to collect new crayons and coloring books, we were shocked and overjoyed with the generosity of our community as we were able to collect over $750. This money was used to purchase a number of other items that were in demand in the hospital such as baby mobiles, LEGO sets, and Xbox games. In addition, we were so happy to have received 55 crayon boxes and 33 coloring books in donations.

We are so thankful for these donations and so proud that we will be able to give such a great amount to the hospital. Thank you to everybody who donated and who spread the word. Please know that your donations will bring great happiness to a child and will play an important role in his or her recovery.

Although the Krayons for Kids fundraiser has ended, please do not hesitate to donate crayons, coloring books or any other item to Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, a great facility that strives to make treatment as positive as possible both for the children and for their families.
