HOPEWELL: Bad News Bears win Babe Ruth playoffs 

St. John Chimney Sweeps’ Bad News Bears became the Babe Ruth Champions by defeating Peddler’s Village, 5-3,in the championship game of the Babe Ruth playoffs at Bacon Field.
In the bottom of the first inning Luke Blair bunted Jack Haynes to the next base. Luke eventually scored home and so did Chris Romano in that inning.
Peddler’s Village fought back in the fourth inning with a run. Matt Nyce scored after doubling in the fifth inning.
There were great plays in the field. Luke Blair throw caught a runner stealing third base in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game.
Peddler’s Village bested King’s Pizza, 7-3, in the semifinal game. Hits from Michael Weaver, Daniel Amon, and Travis Becker contributed to Peddler’s Village’s early lead. The next inning, Matt Nyce and David Phillips add hits that brought the score to 7-0. King’s Pizza had a leadoff double from Marc Porpora in the first, but only added one hit before the seventh inning.
King’s Pizza prevented the shutout with three runs in the seventh. Ryan Coughlin knocked in two runs with a double and was followed by an RBI from Justin Gaynord.
In earlier rounds in the playoffs, the Bad News Bears edged King’s Pizza, 3-1. In the second inning, right fielder Riley Murphy made a diving catch to get the first out.
King’s Pizza scored a run in the top of the 4th inning, but in the bottom of the frame the Bears answered back by scoring two.
On Wednesday, June 6, King’s Pizza overcame Aztec Graphics, 6-2, in a postseason clash. Aztec Graphics, the higher seed, threw all they had at King’s Pizza. Alex Paul and Anthony Yarson both pitched gems, and Jacob Elam came through in the clutch with a RBI single.
Aztec Graphics’ Spencer Markiewiez hit a double over the center fielder’s head. King’s Pizza’s Eddie Chimara had great pitching. Ryan Coughlin, Mark Porpora, and Henry Hutchinson all went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
King’s Pizza bested Ewing Kiwanis, 11-1. In the third inning Ewing Kiwanis scored one. King’s Pizza responded with a double from Marc Porpora to score Gavin Merk, followed by Porpora’s run to bring the game to 2-1. In the fourth and fifth, Pizza rallies were lead off from Ryan Coughlin and Kenny Tagliareni.
