HOPEWELL: Pitching decides Cal Ripken league title for Phillies

Pitching dominated the Cal Ripken League championship games this weekend by the Applebee’s Phillies and the Knapp’s Cyclery Orioles.
There was a total of 21 strikeouts in the first game. In the top of the 6th the Phillies Andrew Salmon’s clutch RBI single sent the championship series to game two.
In the second game, the Orioles took a lead in the top of the first when leadoff hitter Nick Taglerini scored on a double by Cole Garrow. The Phillies answered in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
In the bottom of the 5th Luke Kavulich led off the inning with a single and later scored on a fast ball to take the lead, 2-1. Jake Loughery of the Phillies came into pitch in the top of the 6th and struck out all 3 batters to win their second game of the day and make the Phillies became the 2016 Major League Champions.
In other games:
— The Yankees of STS Tire and Auto Company beat the Orioles, 4-3. Jaden Shin went 2-3 with an RBI. For the Orioles Timmy McQueen had a 5-pitch, 1-2-3 first inning. Cole Garrow had a one-hand play at shortstop to stop a Yankees rally. Mason Scall went 2-3 with a run scored and a double.
— The Red Sox of Kuppex Landscaping beat the Mets of Hogan Self-Storage, 6-5, on the strength of Sanjay Suryannaryan’s RBI single in the bottom of the 5th. Dhruv Indelicato came into pitch in the 5th and 6th innings and struck out a total of 5 batters. For the Mets, Dylan Eng went 1-2 with a double, walk with RBI. He also pitched two strong innings.
— The Applebees Phillies beat Vito’s Pizza, 12-3. The Phillies’ Jake Loughery scored twice and had 3 RBIs. Elliot Block helped the Phillies with a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases in the second. Arman Signh pitched well, singled and scored a run for the As.
— The Phillies beat the Red Sox, 11-1, in a 5-inning game The Phillies scored 5 runs in the second and fourth innings. In the third the Red Sox scored one while the Phillies were held by pitching of Jake Lengel. The Red Sox gave up the final run on a walk to Elliot Block.
— The Orioles beat the Yankees, 3-1. Pitchers Austin Martorana, Cole Garrow and Tim McKeon together had 8 strikeouts. Pitchers Scotty Hunt, Dominic Yarson and Jarrett Sharp combined to strike out six. 
