Places to Be

The 2016 spring scholastic athletic season has come to an end but there will be events all summer that you can still attend —and compete in, too.

Here is what is on tap this coming week.

The Freehold Area Running Club kicked off the 34th year of its Summer 5K Race Series on June 12 at the historic Battle of Monmouth State Park on Old Route 33 in Manalapan. The series will be held every Wednesday evening through July 27.

In addition to the 5k race, there half-mile and mile-runs for those ages 8-and-up.

Road racers looking to find a race to run in this weekend will find one in Ocean Township, the St. Anselm Hawks 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk. The races will be at Joe Palaia Park on Whalepond Road in Oakhurst.

On Father’s Day, June 19, treat your father to some baseball featuring some of the top college talent in the Atlantic Region. This is the 15th year that the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) has been showcasing this promising college talent before fans and Major League scouts.

Teams are spread throughout the state and rosters include a plethora of former high school stars from the area now shining in college.

At North Brunswick Community Park, the New Brunswick Matrix will be home to the New Jersey Angels in a doubleheader that starts at 10 a.m.

St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel is where a twinbill between the home Monmouth Monarchs and the visiting Ocean Giants. Play starts at 10 a.m.
