Salvatore A. Asaro, Jr., 83

Salvatore A. Asaro, Jr., 83 of Hopewell, passed away on Sunday June 19, 2016. Born in Passaic, he was raised in Nutley and was a resident of Hopewell for many years. Mr. Asaro was a graduate of Nutley High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts and Illustration from Pratt Institute.
A talented artist, he was employed as an illustrator with RCA & General Electric, was a courtroom artist with CBS News in Philadelphia and produced publicity artwork for the 1987 Broadway musical, The Wiz. Among his many works, his portrait of Winston Churchill is displayed at Blenheim Castle in Oxford, England and a tribute piece entitled “Forty Years of the U.S. Air Force” is part of the permanent collection at the Pentagon. Mr. Asaro was also U.S. Navy veteran, an active member of the Hopewell community, serving as a councilman and former EMT with the Hopewell Volunteer Emergency Medical Unit and the Hopewell Volunteer Fire Department.
 Predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne (Harrison) Asaro, he is survived by his children, Elizabeth Anne Asaro, Mitchell David Asaro and Thaddeus Mark Asaro and Margaret Harrison Asaro. He also leaves his loving
grandchildren, Giovanni, Katherine, Tanner, Antonio, Brodie and Bryce and his sister Rose Marie Readel.
Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St. Nutley onWednesday June 22 at 8:30 am.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church 28 Brookline Ave. Nutley at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Hopewell, NJ at 3 pm.
Visiting will be at the funeral home on Tuesday June 21 from 4-7pm.
