HOPEWELL: Farm preserve was perfect site for music festival

To the editor:
This past weekend (June 18), D&R Greenway Land Trust was especially pleased to host the Music Festival and Block Party for the 125th celebration of Hopewell Borough at our St. Michael’s Farm Preserve.
Looking over the vast landscape with full moon behind the stage on Saturday evening, I was again awed that D&R Greenway Land Trust, with generous support from the Hopewell community and well beyond, saved the nearly 400 acres that served the St. Michael’s orphanage (1873-1972). Our St. Michael’s Farm Preserve, — now accessible for daily walks, birding and general outdoor enjoyment — was permanently preserved in 2010.
Last summer, we dedicated the new pedestrian bridge over the Bedens Brook to the late Hopewell Borough Councilman David Knights. Each year, we host a community campout for families who enjoy sleeping under the stars, and we have held meteor watch events each summer.
Congratulations to the Music Festival’s organizing committee, ably led by Deb Stuhler and Cydney Perske. Together, we are celebrating the beauty and history of Hopewell and connecting more people with the land. Oh, what a night!
