JACKSON – More than 20 businesses and organizations had their liquor license renewed for the next year following a vote of approval from the Jackson Township Council. The renewals will net Jackson slightly more than $33,000 in license fees.
Eleven plenary retail consumption and five plenary retail distribution alcoholic beverage license extensions were memorialized for July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
The plenary retail consumption licenses and fees are as follows:
- Cassville Tavern Inc., $2,000
- CBP Ventures LLC, Cee-Gee’s Bar & Grill, $2,000
- Six Flags Great Adventure LLC, $2,000
- Cornick Industries LLC, $2,000 (inactive pocket license)
- Pine Barrens Golf Club LLC, $2,000
- McGinn’s Pub LLC, $2,000
- Metedeconk Hospitality Services, Metedeconk National Golf Club, $2,000
- Steven Nussbaum, $2,000 (inactive pocket license)
- Ira Port, $2,000 (inactive pocket license)
- Surf’s Up Jackson Corp., Surf Taco, $2,000
- Jackson South Inc., 21 South Bar & Grill, $2,000.
A plenary retail consumption license allows a licensee to provide an area for customers to drink alcoholic beverages, hold tasting events and obtain up to two restricted brewery licenses.
The plenary retail licenses listed as pocket licenses designate that the licenses are held by owners who have yet to use them.
A plenary distribution license permits the sale of liquor and tasting events.
According to state statutes, municipal officials have significant control over how liquor licenses are disseminated, including limiting the number of retail licenses, restricting the business hours of liquor retail stores and other limitations.
The retail licensees are as follows:
- Anthony Prisco Inc., Spirits Unlimited, $2,000
- Hope Chapel Liquors, $2,000
- Glory’s Discount Market Inc., $2,000
- Tarantino Companies Inc., Plaza Wine & Liquors, $2,000
- Rijeeth LLC, Buy Rite and Wine O Land, $2,000.
The number of retail liquor licenses that are available to a municipality is based on the municipality’s population.
Retail sale and consumption licenses are generally provided at a ratio of one license for every 3,000 residents, while distribution licenses are generally provided at a ratio of one license for every 7,500 residents, according to municipal officials.
Club licenses, which are generally issued to nonprofit organizations that want to sell liquor and other alcoholic beverages to club members and their guests, were also approved by the council. They are as follows:
- Howell-Jackson Columbian Club, Bartley Road, $150
- Loyal Order of Moose No. 1459, East Veterans Highway, $150
- AMVETS Post No. 2, Ocean County, Toms River Road, $150
- VFW Post 4703 Inc., Magnolia Drive, $150
- Lakewood Estonian Association Inc., Lakewood Estonian Club, Veterans Highway and Cross Street, $150
- BPOE Lodge No. 2744, Jackson Elks Lodge No. 2744, $150
- Westlake Master Association, Pine Lakes Circle, $150.
A club is not allowed to sell packaged alcoholic goods or sell alcohol to individuals renting their facilities. The number of club licenses that are available in a municipality is not restricted by state law.
