Places To Be

There are plenty of athletic events on the agenda while celebrating the July Fourth holiday.

Here  is a schedule that will surely keep everyone occupied during the holiday period.

Shore Conference football fans can get one last look at last season’s best seniors before many head off to their college careers at the 39th US Army All-Shore Football Classic.

This year’s game, which pits Monmouth’ County’s best players against Ocean County’s top players, will be held at Central Regional High School in Bayville. The all-star game will kick off at 7 p.m.

Ocean County will be looking to repeat last year’s victory and close Monmouth County‘s 20-17-1 lead in the series.

Auto racing fans can celebrate July 4 two days early at Wall Stadium. The speedway is celebrating the holiday with a special card on July 2. There will be six feature races-Legends, 4-Cylinders, Sportsman, Limited Late Models, Modifieds and 4-Cylinders.

There will be a dunk tank in the grandstand area and Miss Liberty will make an appearance.

The grandstands open at 5 p.m., with qualifying starting at 5:45. At 7 p.m., there will be an Opening Ceremony. The feature races  will go off at 7:10.

All active military and veterans will be admitted free.

Runners can celebrate July 4 on the road participating in the Firecracker 5 at Wall Township Municipal Complex, 2700 Allaire Rd. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., with registration at the complex starting at 7:15.

Registration fee, if done by July 1, is $25. Post-registration is $30. Call Wall Recreation at 732-449-8444, x2251, if you have any questions.

The post-race party will be at Belmar’s Bar A.

The High School Boys and Girls Summer Basketball League, run by Monroe Sports Center, Perrineville Road, Monroe Township, has games Monday through Thursday each week through July 10. This is a chance for basketball followers in Central Jersey to get a peak at what next year’s scholastic teams will look like. 

The Shore Athletic Club’s All-Comers Track and Field Meets Series continues on July 5 at 6 p.m. at Neptune High School. There are events for boys and girls and men and women. There are individual events, relays and field events.

The Freehold Area Running Club 34th Summer 5K Race Series continues at the historic Battle of Monmouth State Park on Old Route 33 in Manalapan.

In addition to the 5K race, there are half-mile and mile-runs for those ages 8-and-up.

The series will continue on Wednesday evenings through July 27.
