Resident supports Johnson for president

Typing Letter to the Editor for the Opinion page.

Like many Americans, the thought of having to chose between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump this fall gives me anxiety.

Hillary’s views, much like a block of ice, have become fluid after being exposed to the political spotlight for so long; not to mention the fact that her negligence may be responsible for the loss of American life in Benghazi.

On the other side, we have a man who has turned himself into a caricature, giving us third grade insults instead of actual policy.

Unsurprisingly, my first time voting (I recently turned 18) is met with no small amount of disillusionment. However, there is a way out.

A recent Monmouth University poll has Gary Johnson, a former New Mexico governor, making his way up to 11 percent (just four points short of meeting the prerequisite needed to debate alongside Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump on national television).

Gov. Johnson, a libertarian, places issues like protecting the free market and the privacy rights of American citizens at the center of his campaign.

As a third party candidate, Gov. Johnson has no “delusions of grandeur,” so why vote for him? Because it is not right that this many Americans feel like they are settling for the lesser of two evils.

Voting for Gov. Johnson or other third party candidates voices our discontent. It also shows we will vote for who we support, not just who is mainstream; 50 percent of Americans describe themselves as moderate, it is about time we start voting that way.
