Editor should apologize for ‘immigrant’ headline

Phyllis Spiegel, Plainsboro
I find your headline on Page 1, July 1, identifying a criminal as “immigrant“ objectionable. I’d compare it to saying in a headline “black“ or “Indian“ or “Jewish.“ “Former criminal“ or something similar might be OK.
This will be an excuse to set off the radical anti-immigrant Trump supporters.
And by the way, while there may be some day laborers with, as you say, no employer, many of these men are hard working and out seeking employment every day. Do you ask who is mowing your lawn or eagerly doing other often arduous jobs for contractors and landscapers? And don’t forget all the “immigrant“ family men who work in our restaurants, supermarkets, etc., and pay taxes.
In the 40 years I’ve been a Packet reader I’ve never been so enraged by something you’ve printed. I think Princeton’s immigrant population deserves an apology.
