Plays-in-the-Park announces performances

Plays-in-the-Park will present the second offering of its summer 2016 season, Sister Act. This feel-good musical is based on the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg comedy about a disco diva put in protective custody at a nun’s convent. The show runs from July 6-16, excluding Sunday, July 10. All of the performances start at 8:30 p.m. A Sign Language Interpreted performance will take place on July 13, (rain date July 14). Plays-in-the-Park is located at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater within Roosevelt Park at 1 Pine Drive, Edison.

Sister Act is directed by Peter Loewy and choreographed by Rassean Holloway. The musical director is Nick DeGregorio. Tickets for the show can only be purchased on the nights of performances. The Box Office opens at 5:30 p.m. on the evenings of performances and closes at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for seniors (60+). Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

In recognition of their continuing service to our country, the Middlesex County Freeholders are proud to offer complimentary admission to the summer musicals for active U.S. Military Service members and their immediate families. There will be a select number of reserved seats available for each performance. Service members are asked to call the Parks Office at 732-745-3936 prior to the show they wish to attend for reservations. Proper ID is required when picking up tickets.

Audience members must provide their own seating. All chair backs must not exceed 40 inches high. Please go to the County website at www.middlesexcountynj.gov and search Plays-in-the-Park for more information about the box office and seating.

If a performance is cancelled due to inclement weather, save your ticket and use it to attend any other PIP performance at no additional charge. Ticket stubs are valid up to one year after the canceled performance.

Plays-in-the-Park is dedicated to providing theater to everyone. Patrons requiring assistance due to a disability are encouraged to contact Jackie Neill, recreation supervisor, at
732-745-3936 prior to attending a performance so that any special needs may be met.

PIP offers an Audio Description performance on July 8, with a rain date of July 9. There will be an Open Captioned performance July 11, with a rain date of July 12, and a performance with sign language interpretation on July 13, with a rain date of July 14.

Plays-in-the-Park represents a unique collaboration between community theater and local government since 1963. PIP is sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Middlesex County Office of Parks and Recreation. Plays-in-the-Park’s mission is to recreate the quality and intent of the original Broadway productions of these shows.
