Places To Be

The mid-summer days are upon us so get out and enjoy the outdoors.

There are baseball, horse racing, basketball and more baseball highlight a busy schedule for local sporting fans to take in over the coming days.

The Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League showcases top college baseball talent.

On July 14 the best of that talent will be on display when the league holds its 2016 All-Star Game at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood.

The all-stars will be divided into two teams, the Yogi Berra All-Stars and the Larry Doby All-Stars.

First pitch is 6 p.m.

The Meadowlands Pace, one of the most lucrative races in harness racing carrying a $732,050 purse, will be run on July 16 at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

In addition to the Meadowland Pace, which features 10 of the top 3-year-old pacers in the county, the race card also include the $471,800 WR Haughton Memorial FFA Pace, the $223,150 Golden Girls FFA Pace, the $300,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial Trot and the $471,000 Hambletonian Maturity Trot.

Jersey Mikes’s Jersey Shore Basketball League features many former area high school basketball stars who are now starring in college. Games are played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Wall Township High School.

The Freehold Township Little League is the host to the the Section 3 Major League Tournament.

The tournament starts on July 15 with the District 19 champion, Freehold Township, playing the District 12 winner, Bordentown, at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., the District 11 champion, North Howell, plays the District 10 winner, Clark.

Holbrook, the District 18 champion, will play the winner of the Freehold Township-Bordentown game on July 16 at 7 p.m.

The Section 3 title game is July 20  in Freehold Township at 7 p.m. If necessary, a title game will be played the following night at 7.

The section champion advances to the state tournament July 28-Aug. 1 at the Gloucester City Little League field.

The Freehold Township, Tiinton Falls and Marlboro Little Leagues are holding first-round games in the District 19 Little League Junior League Tournament on July 19.

At Tinton Falls, Eaton plays Tinton Falls at 5:30 in Game One, and at 8 p.m., Game Two will have Middletown taking on Long Branch. In Freehold Township, Lincroft takes on Freehold Township at 7 p.m., and in Marlboro, Toms River East plays Marlboro at 7 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for July 28 in Freehold Township at 7 p.m. , with an if-needed game the following evening, July 29, at the same time.
