Community education programs announced

The Township of Ocean Environmental Commission announces a free community environmental education series at the Ocean Township Library, 701 Deal Rd., Ocean.

Environmentally Friendly Lawn Care will be held at 7 p.m. on July 27. Presented by Master Gardeners of Monmouth County, New Jersey, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Monmouth County, learn how to have a green lawn with time tested tips from Monmouth County Master Gardeners. Explore environmentally friendly alternatives for keeping a lawn healthy, beautiful and free from harmful chemicals.

Going Native: A Guide to Landscaping with Native Plants will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 24. Presented by The Barnegat Bay Partnership, discover the importance of incorporating native and “Jersey-Friendly” plants into a home garden for creating a beautiful and healthy ecosystem.

NJ Deer Control and You will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28. Christopher J. Markham, Wildlife Biologist and president of NJ Deer Control, will provide insight into the behavior of deer, including their habitats, lifestyles, typical diet and natural migration patterns. He will introduce solutions to deer damage, including using the proper plant selections, topical treatments, and physical barriers.

A New Spin on Energy will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct.19. Presented by New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), hear about turning daily energy consumption Green.
