Three Hillsborough students were among the nearly 3,875 students who received undergraduate, master’s, educational specialist and doctoral degrees from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., during the May 6, 2016, commencement exercises.
Emily Jean Mirabella of Hillsborough graduated cum laude with a degree in interdisciplinary liberal studies. Danielle Gemignani gained a degree in athletic training, and Alyssa DiGirolamo earned a degree in health sciences.

Brianna McCormick of Hillsborough graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communications (public relations/sociology) at the 157th commencement ceremony at Albright College in Reading, Pa., on May 22, 2016.
Public health advocate John R. Garrison delivered the commencement address.

Ryan Peter Van Keuren of Hillsborough has been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Kutztown (Pa.) University.
Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year (winter and summer). Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish their requirements for graduation throughout the entire year.

Benjamin Schindler of Hillsborough graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration during commencement ceremonies on May 22, 2016, at the University of Vermont.
The university conferred degrees on an estimated 2,937 graduates, including 2,329 bachelor’s, 388 master’s, 114 doctoral, and 106 doctoral degree recipients.

Haley Shein of Hillsborough graduated from Monmouth University Graduate School of Education in May with a master’s degree in special education. Haley received a 4.0 GPA for the spring semester and graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.96.
She was also a graduate assistant and worked in the Education Department at the university. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, and president of the club softball team. Haley will teach first grade in the New Brunswick school district starting in September.

Elyse A. Malecki, a 2012 graduate of Hillsborough High School, recently graduated with honors from Central Connecticut State University, in New Britain, Conn., and received President’s List status with a 3.97 GPA. For her academic performance, Elyse graduated magna cum laude and received departmental honors for graduating with the highest ranking in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Elyse was a student athlete at CCSU and was awarded this past June the Coca Cola Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Academic and Athletic Performance as the highest ranking female athlete at CCSU in 2016. Elyse, who played lacrosse for all four years, was also named to the Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Honor Role recognizing those student-athletes for maintaining a 3.75 or better grade-point average.
Elyse is staying at CCSU to pursue her master’s degree. She is employed as a case coordinator at Connecticut Junior Republic at the Waterbury Child, Youth & Family Support Center.
