WOODBRIDGE – A Woodbridge man was charged on June 24 following a serious hit-and-run incident.
The Perth Amboy Police Department charged Pishoi Bakoom, 27, with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash as well as causing bodily injury, obstruction of justice and endangering an injured victim, according to a statement prepared by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Deputy Chief Lawrence Cattano of the Perth Amboy Police Department.
Bakoom was released after posting $25,000 bail, officials said.
During an investigation conducted by Detective Jose Pais of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that Bakoom was driving a 2012 BMW Coupe on Convery Boulevard and allegedly fled after striking Jose Magalhaes, 57, of Perth Amboy, as Magalhaes crossed the street at the Harding Avenue intersection around 11:11 p.m., according to the statement.
Magalhaes was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was in stable condition and treated for multiple injuries, according to the statement.
