PLAINFIELD — In response to the recent shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge and rising racial tensions in communities, Oasis Church is inviting local community members to its “Takin’ It to the Park” tent church service at 11 a.m. on July 24 at the Parkside Grove in Cedar Brook Park. The event will also feature a free picnic and concert.

“While the media and other unhealthy elements in our society are doing all they can to flame up racial tensions and division, our multicultural church is in a unique position to make a statement about racial unity and togetherness,” said Dave Butler, lead pastor of the church. ” … The healing of our societal violence and division won’t come from politicians, but from diverse churches standing up together, and letting communities know there is a better alternative. Our church coming to Plainfield and inviting all people is one small, practical way to show love.”

The event is open to all people regardless of religious or ethnic background. Come with family and friends and enjoy an outdoor church service, music from three bands, free food and a chance to mingle and meet new friends. There will be a big top tent for shade and a huge playground area for the kids, including a bounce house.

Oasis Church is nondenominational and has three locations, including South Plainfield, Scotch Plains and New Brunswick. For more information and directions, call 732-406-7821.
