Plays in the Park has announced the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “South Pacific,” will be performed from July 27 through Aug. 6 at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater at Roosevelt Park, 1 Pine Drive, Edison. There will be no performance July 31.
Dates for special performances include: An audio description performance on July 29 (rain date July 30); a performance with open captioning on Aug. 1 (rain date Aug. 2); and a sign language-interpreted performance on Aug. 3 (rain date Aug. 4).
“South Pacific” premiered on Broadway in 1949 and tells the story of U.S. troops stationed on a South Pacific island during World War II and the romance between an American military nurse and a French plantation owner. The production will feature a 26-piece orchestra that will perform “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair” and others.
The Middlesex County freeholders have also announced a special offer for free tickets and special reserved seats for veterans at certain performances. Aug. 1 will be free for veterans of World War II and the Korean War; Aug. 2 for veterans of the Vietnam War; and Aug. 3 for veterans of all other wars and conflicts.
Plays in the Park also continues to offer complimentary admission to its summer musicals for active U.S. military service members and their immediate families. There will be a select number of reserved seats available at each performance. Veterans and service members are asked to call the Parks Office at 732-745-3936 prior to the show they wish to attend for reservations. Proper ID is required when picking up tickets.
Tickets for the show can only be purchased on the nights of performances. The Box Office opens at 5:30 p.m. on the evenings of performances and closes at 9 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors age 60 and up. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.
Audience members must provide their own seating. All chair backs must not exceed 40 inches. If a performance is cancelled due to inclement weather, tickets may be used to attend any other Plays in the Park performance at no additional charge. Ticket stubs are valid up to one year after the canceled performance.
