RED BANK – This summer, a program offering lunch and outreach for seniors is getting Reckless.
The Wesleyan Cafe, an initiative organized by United Methodist Communities (UMC) at The Wesleyan to provide seniors with the opportunity to enjoy lunch and socialize, has moved to the Anthony Reckless Estate, home of the Red Bank Woman’s Club, at 164 Broad St.
“As a leader in senior services, United Methodist Communities is well-positioned for senior outreach. The relocation helps fulfill the goal of increasing services beyond our walls,” UMC Vice President of Housing and Community Initiatives Cindy Jacques said.
Wednesday, June 29, signals the debut of the Wesleyan Cafe at its new location. The program begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m.
After the grand opening at the Reckless Estate, the Wesleyan Cafe will occur again every Wednesday at the same time and place. The public is invited to attend.
The Wesleyan Cafe is funded through UMC’s Home and Community Based Services as a way of fulfilling the “overall non-profit mission to promote living and learning for older adults.”
In addition to a meal, the Wesleyan Cafe maintains a casual format and offers a variety of activities on a rotating basis ranging from technology education, exercise, dance, yoga, creative writing, games, art, information about senior services, and more. While some of these classes and programs come with a “nominal fee,” many are free.
UMC at The Wesleyan is a 60-apartment senior housing facility that is located in Red Bank and one of 10 UMC senior communities across New Jersey. The first occupants took up residency in 1998.
