HILLSBOROUGH: Stop ‘n’ Shop supermarket will close

The Stop ‘n’ Shop Supermarket in the Hillsborough Centre at 649 Route 206 will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.
Signs on the doors tell customers of the impending closing and invite shoppers to use the chain’s store on Orlando Drive, off Route 206 in Raritan Borough, near the Somerville Circle.
Reports say the Hillsborough’s store’s lease at the site has expired.
Hillsborough will be left with two supermarkets in Hillsborough. ShopRite is in the adjacent Nelson’s Corner Shopping Center and Weis Markets is in the Hillsborough Promenade, further north on Route 206 at Triangle Road.
A notice in today’s newspaper says that Stop n Shop will transfer prescription files and records to the ShopRite Pharmacy in the adjacent Nelson’s Corner center as of Friday, Aug. 12.
In May the zoning Board of Adjustment approved the building of a free-standing Starbucks in the front of the Stop ‘n’ Shop center parking lot. There was no immediate word on the impact of the supermarket closing on the Starbucks building.
