Places To Be

There are plenty of mid-summer classics in local sports on the schedule this coming week. Stay cool and enjoy the competition.

The Freehold Township Little League is holding the Little League Junior League District 19 Tournament this week —and that is very important for the district teams. With the FTLL serving as the host site of the up coming Eastern Regional (Aug. 5-10), the District 19 winner automatically goes to the Regional, bypassing the Section and State tournaments.

In addition to Freehold Township, Lincroft, Marlboro, Tinton Falls, Middletown, Eatontown and Two River West are the little leagues competing for the pennant.

The District 19 championship game is set for July 26 at 7 p.m., with the if-necessary decider planned for the following night, July 27, also at 7.

For high school basketball fans, Red Bank Regional High School is holding its annual Maroon and White at the Shore Team Camp July 27-29.

This NCAA-certified camp will bring college coaches to Red Bank High to watch some of the best girls’ basketball teams from New Jersey as well as two teams from New York state.

There will be 25 teams in all participating in the game, including Shore Conference powers St. John Vianney, Middletown South, Red Bank Catholic and Rumson-Fair Haven as well as Colts Neck, Marlboro, Freehold Township, Middletown North , Jackson Memorial, Holmdel and Red Bank.

Games tip off at 11:30 a.m. on July 27 and 28 and 9 a.m. on July 29. The final games starts at 5:30 p.m. on July 27 and 28 and 12 noon on the last day.
